I just can't get as excited about summer blooms. I play favorites. I like the spring ephemerals so much better. Probably because they come at the end of winter, when I haven't seen flowers in such a long time.
But I do love the
American Bellflower (
Campanulastrum americana) that's blooming now.

Spring flowers are the best. We only get tulips and crocus's but seeing them come out, usually when there is still some snow on the ground, is cool. Well cold actually..
ReplyDeleteI imagine the long-winter effect is much much worse in Canada than here!
ReplyDeletelovely flower though :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!
ReplyDeleteI think it is also called Tall Bellflower if I am not mistaken. The latin name implies the "American". And just for the record, en français, it is "campanule".
Is that a nursery plant or a wild volunteer?
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers!
Thanks y'all.
ReplyDeleteYes it is also called Tall Bellflower. If definitely gets tall! Sounds prettier in French though, huh? :)
Jenn it's a wild flower, but I think some people do grow these in their gardens. It's growing here along with some sunflowers that look like black-eyed susans - the colors are beautiful together but I can't seem to get a good pic of the whole effect.
That's a beautiful flower. I don't think I have ever seen it before. I wonder if it gets this far south.
ReplyDeleteAw, give the summer flowers their due. Around here, it is so blazing hot and dry that anything that can bloom gets my admiration (though not much was in bloom at Roundrock when I was out there today).
ReplyDeleteI love all the different seasonal flowers... each time we get to the new blooming ones I think "This is my favorite time of year." Guess I'm easy to please! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey, I finally got pics posted of the frottaged room: http://turtleheartcove.blogspot.com/2005/08/frottage-photos.html
Floridacracker, I think it only gets down into north FL.
ReplyDeletePablo, you're right. If the weather were cool now, if the mosquitoes weren't so bad, if the woods weren't covered with poison ivy... I'd probably like summer blooms much better. :)
Turtleheart, love the frottage! I've got to try that next time we paint.
