I don't know what the spiders are, but I've been running across clusters of low-lying orange eggs (I guess) that look like they might hatch to be just like that.
Oh, they're so cyooooot! They look like some orb weaver, but that's my only clue so far. Look at them, though; they're like animate bits of amber!
I found a baby punkin' spider in a web on my porch the other day -- actually, some garden-spider orbweaver, but someone who wrote in after I had a feature about spiders in the SF Chronicle said she called them "pumpkin spiders" because she started noticing them around Hallowe'en every year, like jack o'lanterns in her yard. The name stuck, for me.
Be nice to them. They're on your side. But you knew that.

When I first saw these, it just looked like an orange mass. I was really surprised that they turned out to be spiders.
In general spiders don't scare me as much as most other bugs... especially as long as they're outside where they belong. I can appreciate a good outside bug. Except roaches, I can't appreciate them at all.
Thanks Pony, my camera is pretty old, for a digital. It's a Sony Mavica CD-1000. Very low pixels compared to what's available nowdays. It does have a few nice features though. (Plus some that drive me crazy.)

There wasn't a spider scene in Bladerunner per se. But it's part of Rachael's implanted memories that they talk about. An orange spider with green legs, that wove a web near her window. Then one day there was an egg... when it hatched, a hundred baby spiders came out and ate the mother. It's the scene where she finally realizes that she's a replicant.
Oh man, I hate spiders. But I have to say, you are one danged good photographer.
I was tellin' my grandmother about your wildlife camera and the pictures you have gotten of the deer at night. I told her she ought to have one since they have so much forested land.
I guess the color means they're bad-tasting or poisonous to birds and such? I once saw a small group of daddy-long-legs whose color made it look like a glowing coal with legs.
I like spiders et al, but my Mom is phobic. Seems her childhood home was infested with black widows! (Her grandfather had built the house with imported wood....)
The flower there is a lyre-leaf sage, by the way. No idea what the spider is - leave a comment if you know!

I've seen quite a few brightly coloured spiders, but I'm still kind of surprised by them. I've never seen any that colour--gorgeous!
