A wild turkey with four babies! (Meleagris gallopavo.)
I was grinning from ear to ear all afternoon.
Sorry everything's a bit blurry - I never wash the windows. It cuts down on the number of birds that break their necks trying to fly inside. No, really! That's why. Really.
Congrats on the turkeys! And I agree fully with the window washing rationale. I use the same sort of thing with my truck. Fewer bugs will stick to it, or, something.

ReplyDeleteOne day when my son was a young toddler, I grew tired of the avian body count produced by our huge floor-to-ceiling windows and so I spent the afternoon making signs to plaster all over them. I thought they were quite funny, but I got many a cocked eyebrow from visitors.

Great turkey photo. I seem to only see them as they fly or rush away through the grass while my camera is still safe in its case.

we always love to see the turkeys while perusing the pasture across the road from us - but I must admit, we've never encountered momma and babies - how cool is that?!

Well I can just imagine how excited you were and you still managed to get a decent video. I'd have been so excited the camera would have been all over the place.
ReplyDeleteRurality, we see the Wild Turkeys here as well, they are fun to watch. They come in the lower horse pasture, still in the cover of the trees as well as over the Creek bank as they teach their offspring the INS and OUTS of life. Awesome video!
ReplyDeleteWe have raised turkeys here as well. Our biggest success was with the Bronze backed ones. One year we had two slated for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Much to our amazement was the poundage one fully dressed. One was 40 # the other 42 #, we had to take them to the local deer dresser so he could cut them down to a size that they would fit into a conventional oven. Having raised the white ones as well we OPT for the bronze back, there is a lot more dark meat and the broth is AMBER and lush!
You won't believe it but after seeing your turkey post I came home to find the same thing in our back yard (somewhat north of you). First time I'd seen the little ones.
