Just another vine hanging out on the fence... nothing to worry your pretty little heads about, my sweet little tweetie birds...
I was going to post this tomorrow, but I found out from
Bug Girl that it's World Snake Day today so I had to put it up a bit early.
I wrote about
Black Racers earlier this spring. (Still not sure if this one is Coluber constrictor constrictor or C. constrictor priapus.)
He didn't like me standing so close. I raised my arm to point at a Green Heron flying over and VOOM! The Racer was gone.
Racers must be more skittish than rat snakes. A big one making its leisurely way across our front yard the other day didn't seem to care that two people were leaning over it to figure out what kind of snake it was.
ReplyDeleteWorld snake day, huh? Poor snakes get a bad rap. I still havent' seen so much as a garter snake at our place.
ReplyDeleteI once met a black rat snake coming up the cellar steps of an old farmhouse....they look so much like the racers --it is hard to tell them apart. Yours is a beauty! (and I've never met one I didn't like....)
ReplyDeleteNeat!
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss World Snake Day?!
Love those game cam pics ...
really? how'd i miss world snake day?
ReplyDeletei helped a silly snake across the street the other day. then i went home to change. *sigh* no good deed...
world snake day? now how cool is that???
ReplyDeleteLin, I think you're right. Usually the Racers run away at top speed.
ReplyDeleteMeredith, yep! I'm not sure what you're really supposed to do on WSD. I probably should have made nag champa soap!
Cyndy, as much as I like snakes - and I do - I don't think I'd want to meet one *inside* my house!
FC I almost missed it myself. Maybe next year we can plan some activities. :)
Erika, LOL. My favorite expression.
Lime, yeah really next year we should start planning early! Oh! We could have a snake cake.
I found a snake taking a leisurely sun bath the other day right in the middle of my yard. Dave re-located him- It was a bad, bad snake and likes to live at the lake (iffen' you knows what I mean).
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture!
ReplyDelete'Dillos tearing up the yard, coyotes eating the chickens, snakes hanging in the trees, frogs drumming - it's always exciting to visit here, Rurality.
ReplyDeleteSo far all I've seen in our yard are the little Texas Brown snakes.
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
does anyone know when the first world snake started?
