I should say, the wild tomcat who's trying to adopt us.
The wary cat who won't let us near him, but who will handle all the food we might happen to leave lying around.
The wily cat who really needs to go to the vet but can't (so far) be caught.

ReplyDeleteI nearly tamed a wild cat. Had him rubbing up against the sliding glass door, though he would run if I opened it. Then the neighbor shot him.

He also reminds me of the comic strip cat. Name eludes me right now. The one that loves lasagna.
Looks like our two semi-wild cats, whose mom is nearly tame. Like Oscar, our Dusty and Rusty hang around and eat, but run from me. They let my wife touch them every once in a while, but then they run from her. I consider them ingrates, but then I'm a dog person.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful fellow! Mine was the same wild and wily thing in dire need of a vet. We left the transportation box standing outside with the door open. After a couple of days he decided it was a nice place to sleep in and entered it voluntarily. Later he found a few drops of valerian inside the box irresistable. Noawadays he is too old to put up a fight and can just be picked up and put inside the box.

ReplyDeleteHow great is it to be adopted by a new cat! We had a stray coming around for a while that we were calling Oscar, but he was gray. Turned out he belonged to the neighbor down the street, he just liked to pretend he was homeless...

ReplyDeleteWe just lost our formerly "wild" cat, Walter, this past weekend. It took several months to tame him. I would put food in the dish, and sit there on a stool. He would hide under the bush and try to wait me out. But, the canned cat food worked, and I was able to start touching him. He ended up being a lovey-dovey cat. We miss him.
ReplyDeleteSuch a face! He posed so nicely for his photo. Good luck in taming him. I found a cat this morning when I came into work. Looks to be about 3 or 4 months old and has decided the rain sewer will make a nice home. He is on property adjacent to the park - and I hope he will stay there. Feral cats and wildlife don't mix.
ReplyDeleteWE think cats around here must be using the old HOBO signs. The signs have to say HERE is a good home they will LOVE ya. She is a push over, just meow, act coy and kill a mouse or two and you’re in like Flint!

Laura, I thought that about this cat too at first but now he stays here pretty much all the time.
RA, I hope so too... he definitely has ear mites, in addition to too many manly parts. :)
Bill I will let you know if Sabine's trick works for this one. He really does need the vet.
Anon, sorry to hear that. I have tried to wait Oscar out but he's better at waiting than I am in this heat.
S4M, well don't try feeding him in the park, I guess. :) This guy started hanging around a lot more after Hubby decided we needed to start feeding him.

ReplyDeleteWe have many stray cats in the neighborhood, but none want to be adopted, they just want to use my herb garden as a litter box.
The stray cat that I feed is pretty smart. He knows when he hears dishes rattleing in the house in the morning that I'm up and it's time for breakfast. He even knows the sound of my car engine. Yesterday, as i was driving home (in time for his "dinner"), I saw him running for my house from several blocks away. It became a race to see which one of us would reach my house first.

ReplyDeleteHe is adorable! We've had 3 cats take up at our various houses over the years...and oddly enough, all orange toms. All turned out to be wonderful pets. Including the one now asleep on my bed downstairs. :)
