I haven't seen cherry trees blooming around here, and the inlaws are north of here, so I guess this one's just an early bloomer.

My sister-in-law emailed to tell me that the reason this is blooming before other cherry trees, is that it isn't a cherry tree! It's a Japanese Apricot. (The bark looks just like that of a cherry.)
I am so happy to see something beside the cold, bitter winter!! Thanks for a bit of spring.

ReplyDeleteWell I got the ID wrong - it's a Japanese Apricot tree instead of a Cherry, so says my mother-in-law. So, that would be a good thing to plant if you want to get the jump on the Cherries I guess. :)

ReplyDeleteOh, I saw these blooming around the UAB Humanities Building on Sunday, and I was wondering what they were. I couldn't figure it out because I knew it was too early for Cherries. Thanks for solving that mystery!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking we ought to get one of these! I love it. This one is planted in a sort of protected location on the side of the house, so that probably helps with the jump-start too.

for us, almonds are flowering now.
