Another recent game cam pic. After looking through some of the older game camera photos, I realized that we've had the camera in almost this exact location before.
I'm not sure why it surprised me, when I first realized it... Animals like to walk on clear, open paths just as much as people do.
I suppose I vaguely imagined some sort of I'm an animal! I walk in the woods! philosphy. But no. If we built an asphalt highway through those trees, the animals would be walking on it.
The only time I saw an animal really crashing through a forest was just a few weeks ago when I saw a bear for the first time. It was definitely running in the woods. All the other critters I've seen have been on roads and trails.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, I believe I have heard that before about boar too. We don't have either bears or boars here, so I don't have any first-hand knowledge.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice size buck! thank goodness we don't have bears! they scare the crap out of me. well, actually a lot of people say that the black bears do come down here from TN.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've heard that. I asked one of the extension agents once about it. He said no on the mountain lions, yes on the bears. I think they are very infrequent visitors, though. I'm still waiting to catch either one on the game cam. :)
ReplyDeleteI was up in Cambria this past week and caught three deer in action nibbling on the color in the garden. Good thing I was armed with my camera to get the culprits. Will have to post on my blog once I get them downloaded.
ReplyDeleteYes. Animal will always use a path, trail or road, if it is available. Cows follow their 'cowpath', deer and antelope on the prairies here in Canada follow trails their ancestors have trekked for generations. And the bison in Yellowstone use the highway part of the way as they make their way down to lower country after the heavy snowfall in the high country of their summer range. It is all about the easiest way.
ReplyDeleteWe are nestled in among the state game land of PA and the deer are as likely to use the roads as cross them.
ReplyDeletewhat a good looking animal! In our local woods the deer tend to stay more in the trees and avoid the main paths.... well when I'm around anyway...
ReplyDeleteHeh, he reminds me of the "deer buffet" they have in my yard all summer. Although bucks are too shy, I only see does. Very cool game cam pics as always! :)
