A black jelly fungus:
Looks like the same type that's in many Chinese soups.
I'm not sure enough about either ID to try to eat them, though.

Black Fungi
I took a couple of exceedingly bad photos of a small black fungus growing in the grass.
It's possibly Craterellus fallax, or Black Trumpet, a type of Chanterelle.

Personally, I try to avoid eating anything that looks vaguely fecal.
They didn't look quite so bad in person! :) But not exactly tasty either.
Oh yes! I recognize the Black Trumpet. Never had the nerve to eat it, though apparently it's a good shroom. I've actually eaten 7 wild species (all legal) - that was my limit.
I'm pretty sure I don't want that in my salad!

I've seen that before but never thought of eating it- Throwing dirt over it maybe- :)
Very cool looking fungi - but since I'm not an expert on them, I would take the picture and then move on. I'm afraid to eat anything black.
I've had black trumpets. They were good, but the flavor was delicate and got kind of lost in the bechemel sauce I tossed them into.
