Otters, we have otters

It worked! Hubby put the game cam where something seemed to have created a path from the creek to the pond. We'd seen fresh otter scat near there.

I'd hoped that the flash would scare the otters away. Sure, they're cute, but they've eaten most of the fish from our ponds.

Considering that this picture was taken a full minute after the previous one, I don't think that strategy is going to work.

When I swap over to the new Blogger, I'll create a category for the game cam, so you'll be able to click and see all the related posts together. But since I'm getting a lot of Google hits on the topic lately, I'll mention again that this is a Cuddeback game camera that we ordered online from "Boss Buck".

No wonder the flash won't scare them away. The otters in the first picture are clearly possessed. Just look at their eyes..

  5. You sure have a greater variety of wildlife than we do in suburban NJ! We do have possums, red foxes, wild turkey, and a rare sighting of black bears tho.

  6. What great pictures! The otters look so sleek. :) I set your pic of the great blue heron (one of my favorite birds--they have a rookery down in the nearby national park) as my desktop wallpaper for this week so I could keep looking at it!

  9. I realize that eating your fish is a not so nice behavior, but man are you lucky to have otters. That is the coolest thing ever. I saw a mother otter swimming with her babies once and it was just the cutest thing. Very cool.

  10. Oh my gosh! I LOVE OTTERS! They are so cute! I always like to watch them at the zoo/aquarium because they look like they have so much fun just swimmin' around! I miss living in the country!

  14. (I could have sworn I wrote answers to all these comments, but either I didn't, or it just disappeared.)

    Thanks y'all!

Well the otters didn't come back after having these pictures taken. I think they are pretty smart critters.

I highly recommend the Cuddeback! We have really loved ours. The newer ones out now are even more spiffy. And no, they don't pay me anything to say that. (Although I'd be quite happy if they did, LOL.)
