I said that bugs are attracted to me because I'm so sweet. My husband had to point out that they're really more attracted to... other things.
Hackberry emperor,
Asterocampa celtis. His favorite foods: Sap, rotting fruit, dung, carrion.

I like that
Butterflies and Moths of North America site and their detailed range maps. You can get a custom list of the butterflies in your state. It even goes down to county level, but I'm not sure if all counties have the same level of detail.
Here's another one for the more common
Alabama butterflies.
What a beautiful butterfly. I check out Butterflies and Moths of North America all the time. It's a great resource for IDing.
ReplyDeleteEeeeuuu. Out of that list, I pick Sap.
ReplyDeleteThen we can extrapolate to maple syrup, which is wonderfully sweet.
It must be the sweetness it is attracted to.... or a nice warm surface to rest on after a long flight..... ~bangchik
ReplyDeleteI think you're sweet.
ReplyDeletePaul
Great picture. I like the "attracted to dung" part.
ReplyDeletehe he he
Yea, you probably smelt like some nice plant sap :) Butterflies land on my sister a lot, too....very cool regardless of the reason!
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to the hubby...
ReplyDeleteIt's because you're sweet! :-)
great site...
ReplyDeletewell.. if your husband was standing close, just tell him the butterfly was coming for the sap. ha ha ha
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty : )
ReplyDeletehey, thinking about you. how's life? you okay??
ReplyDeleteI'm ok. Been meaning to get back to it... guess I am lacking some oomph.
ReplyDeleteHello Rurality!!
ReplyDeleteI found you through the botianical blog site. We're Alabama neighbors! I'm a big fan of butterflies and saw my first Hackberry Emperor when I moved to Alabama. I use BAMONA all the time and have even submitted some first time recorded butterflies here in Marshall county. (they don't have a lot of records here so it's really no big deal!) I hope you visit my blog and you like it. If you're as sweet as the butterflies think you are then you are ok in my book!!
I miss your blog posts.
ReplyDeleteComing back soon, I hope! Really busy with business stuff this week.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes!
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteit's been almost a year. hope all's well! miss you!
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness. This happened to me as well, until I found something I didn't feel like sharing with all of Facebook yet (but don't mind complete strangers knowing all about).
