How to write poetry

"Once upon a midnight lunchtime dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore blog,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door."

"Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven muscovy duck, of the saintly poopy days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But with mien of lord or lady, perched above below my chamber door.
Perched upon a bust of Pallas an ancient doormat, just above below my chamber door,
Perched, and sat shat, and nothing more."

(Apologies to Edgar Allen Poe.)

(Also apologies that I could not figure out how to make the line breaks look prettier!)

Brilliant! lol!- and what a cute little quacker too!

Did you happen to watch Dirtiest Jobs last night? It showed Mike sexing baby chicks and how they inoculate them. Pretty "ahem" interesting but at the same time, glad it is not my job. ; )

Thank goodness I visited your blog today...that must be the funniest thing I've read in years.

That is hysterical! And having had a muscovy duck I can understand; all they do is shat! But,dang it, I was thinking of doing my version of "My Favorite Things" on my blog and you beat me to it! My versification would just be crappy next to that.

Thanks y'all... that crazy little muscovy really was tapping on the door! AND really shat on the mat.

KF I don't think I've ever seen that show. I have seen pics in a book but it all looked the same to me... (Good thing I'm not a chicken I guess.)

Annie, no, you MUST do it! Pretty please. :)

Rho, I'm going to type it out but with spaces:
< s > blah blah blah < / s >
Just take out the spaces and that should work!

Bravo! Well done! And it's good to know that I'm not the only one with a well-fertilized deck and doormat!

It's the blog template that messed up your lines. It looked exactly as it should on my Blogline feed.
Great work by both Mr. Poe and you!
I can hardly wait for The Tell-Tale < S >Dog< / S > Heart.

PS I did try to leave out the spaces in < s > but the comment section would not accept it.
