With flare

Cattails at sunset.

These sweet light pictures rarely turn out quite the way I intend. Never the way I actually see them when looking through the lens.

Woe betide the miserable miscreant of a photo-swapper if I ever lay hands on whoever absconds with my masterpieces and substitutes such lifeless, sallow imitations!

But clearly, if I hope to photograph any faeries at all, I'll need more megapixels.

I think they are pretty neat! But I know what you mean; lots of my photos just don't come out looking like I saw it in real life.

Nothing I take pictures of looks like I imagine. My camera has no imagination at all..

Cool shots.
Would that be "more megapixies?"

Lurker from Arkansas here. When I laugh out loud and slap my knee, I have to comment. Hope you don't mind but I am stealing hopefully with your permission.
"Woe betide the miserable miscreant of a photo-swapper if I ever lay hands on whoever absconds with my masterpieces and substitutes such lifeless, sallow imitations!", either as a sign for over my computer or as a needlepoint pillow. I will be sure to add "by Karen of Rurality".
I know there must be a way to capture what I see but so far no luck. Sometimes good but never glorious as the eye sees. Lets forget phones that we can watch movies on or pay bills, how about an "eyeball camera"?
Love your blog. Patti

Thanks Annie. They just look SO much better through the lens. This pic was the closest out of the 20 or so I took of the cattails.

H&B2 I think your camera has one heck of an imagination... or maybe you are just imagining that you have a camera...

FC you win the comment of the year prize with that one!

CB, yes it's the same thing - cattail is just the American way of saying it. To tell you the truth I didn't know that until you asked, though! :)

OW, it was better in real life! Or it seemed so anyway. Maybe the feeling in the air had something to do with it.

Thanks Patti, steal away! Glad you liked it. I've been listening to (and was influenced by) John Wesley Harding's "Trad Arr Jones" -- a collection of old English Folk songs. There are a lot of "woe betides" in it.

The real thing is always so much more vivid and beautiful than the camera can capture. We give it our best shot, and then hope the photo looks something like what we have been looking at.

OT-- Took a walk around the house this morning to see tracks in the snow, and going right up our driveway we found bobcat tracks! Quite exciting, and almost as good as seeing it (not really!).

Very interesting images of flare. I'm not certain but don't you usually get multiple images of the flare in sort of a line as the light reflects off of the different layers of lenses? But a diamonds with a O inside is sort of strange. And the big blue one don't know what to make of it? Should be easy to PhotoShop it out if you want a pristine image.

Very nice image of cattails tho.

Yeah, the big blue square fairy in the first picture is a little frightening. That can't be a good fairy.

Very funny post! True, too, because I have the same problem. I take dozens of photos and end up with maybe one or two that are tolerable. Nothing ever meets my expectations, but I keep trying anyway.

I admit it- I came to read the pixie comment. But the photos are beautiful and it's always nice to say hi to you, too.

I believe in fairies and little folk- and always admire your photos. You seem to capture the essence of everything ;)
