R.I.P. Geckie

She was a good gecko.

I think her poor vision contributed to her not eating very well, especially lately. Or possibly something else was wrong. Leopard geckos can live to 25 years in captivity, and she was only eight, if the guy we bought her from was telling the truth. (She was supposed to be two when we bought her.)

She always went through periods of not eating, but would always snap out of it and make a comeback. But not this time. She died yesterday.

In this picture she was shedding her skin. Look how fat her tail was! (They store excess fat there.)

I think we're going to have to move her cage. Out of habit, I keep glancing down every time I pass it, expecting to see her. I didn't cry when we first found her dead, but that dang empty cage gets me every time.

I feel sad when I see the remains of a lizard the cats have killed, and that's for a critter that doesn't have a name.

So sorry for your loss - a pet is a pet and part of our families.

I am sorry. I know exactly what you mean about looking for Geckie. It is a habit/expectation that will take a while.

Oh, I feel sad knowing your Geckie has died, and that now you have memories and images in Geckie's stead. Time takes time, especially healing from a loss. Please take good care. Blogging sure is one fine way.

Thanks again. I had a dream about Geckie last night... Hubby was shocked, looking all around her cage, asking where she was, and I had to remind him that she'd passed on... strange, huh?

I'm so sorry. It's amazing how little creatures touch our hearts so.

I cried for days when my little beta fish, Mr. Frisky passed away at age 5.

Thanks for sharing her photos and story with us.
