Lucky 07/07/07

An inch and a half of rain yesterday! This system shown arrived in the wee hours this morning, and since then we've had a long steady rain for a total of 1/4 inch so far.

We are such happy campers!

-----

1.5 inches = 3.8 cm
.25 inches = 6.4 mm

-----

Other lucky things recently:
-Bobwhite quail singing in the yard (we've had that luck every day lately)
-Ran across the same turtle (I think) from the post of June 19, and got a pic of his plastron this time (coming soon to a blog near you)
-Old high school friend came to visit
-Cousins came to visit

Updated:

The radar image almost 12 hours later.

Ahhh prolonged precipitation. Deep drenching. Slow sustained showers. Recurring relentless rain!

congratulations, congratulations, congratulations on the rain! You've been very patient. ;-)

(Did you know that our geckos are black with yellow spots? Yours is beautiful!)

You should go out now and walk directly in that water.

We heard bob white quail when we were at our woods last week.

A bit of rain here during the week but the ground is dry and dusty again already. Sigh!

send...rain...now....please

Experts across the city concur that the conditions are ripe in southern California for the "perfect drought". Los Angeles has recorded just 8.15cm (3.21in ) of rain in the year ending June 30, making it the driest year on record since 1877. According to the National Drought Mitigation Centre, southern California faces "extreme drought" this year, with no rain forecast before September. One climatologist referred to the temperatures in Los Angeles as "Death Valley numbers".

What good news, Rurality- and it's the soaking kind! I'll bet the air itself feels different now.

That's great news. There's really nothing like a good earth-soaking rain. Your garden is going to be so happy.

Enjoy that low pressure rain-producing system that moved your way from Texas. It had been sitting over us for weeks.

The best thing is that it keeps coming! We have gone to a "normal" summer weather pattern, with possibilities of rain every day. Not sure if it will last but things sure are a lot greener already.

Kim, if you come back this way - did you know that your profile is disabled? I mean, I can't click on your link and find your blog - it won't let me.
