Our boat

I wondered if I was seeing things.

It was several months after we bought the land. We were driving on one of the paths, when I thought I spied something a bit odd. "Stop! Back up!"

Yep, it really was a boat. In the middle of the woods.

World's biggest planter?

Many country people don't see the point in paying to take things to the county landfill, when they've got so much perfectly good land of their own on which to dump stuff. So we're continually finding surprises in the woods.

Don't cha just love it? I find things protruding from the dirt around here all the time. I think the old fella that owned the house before we did NEVER went to the dump and just burned stuff all over the yard. Old bottles dont burn...

Well, it does look like it could make an interesting planter!

There's a loveseat on the trail we like to walk when we're on our way to the bay. Someone just dumped it there last fall. It's amazing what some people will do to avoid going to the county landfill.

It's frustrating and strangely comforting at the same time to see this proof that polluters exist in every corner of the world.

Part of the land i have actually used to be a lake (man-made). I might have told you that. Anyway, I've been expecting to see something like a boat but so far all we have found has been an anchor. And of course, what was left of the dam and overflow pipe which came in real handy for driveway culverts.

How much work would it take to repair that boat? I could use one for scattering Bentonite on my "lake" and might drive down there to fetch this boat if you're willing to sell it.

Reminds me of something I saw in a little town in the Mojave Desert. In front of a house was an old boat, and somebody had painted the name U.S.S. Minnow on it. Any Gilligan's Island fans here?

It looks pretty there in the woods. Some flowers in it would be nice!

KF you just need a Great Pyr! They'll bring you all the bottles. :)

RD I was griping to DH recently about a loveset that was dumped down the road from us. Somebody picked it up within just a few hours though!

Sabine I don't think I remember seeing one ounce of trash anywhere in Germany! That was quite a while back of course, but it sure was nicer than here in that regard.

Weldergirl, maybe this boat was over there but lost its anchor and drifted here... Well if it were closer to the creek I might actually believe that! It's unreal what all washes down here in the spring.

Pablo I'm afraid it's beyond repair... I don't think there is even a bottom to it. Sorry! I would have loved for you to have it. I can recommend a paddleboat though! We got one from my inlaws, and hubby uses it to paddle to the middle of the pond sometimes.

Eva, if it were in better shape I might paint that on it LOL.

FC you are too funny!

Rachel, it's in one of the few areas here with a few pine trees. It's pretty shady but I have thought about putting flowers in there. (The problem is that there would be no way to water them. So it would have to be something native, but even that would have to be watered at first...)

Naw, you don't need flowers there -- you need animals. In pairs.

Thanks for the poem Susan! I hadn't heard that one before. (And I love it whenever anyone writes poetry in the comments.)

Ron we may have to build a bigger boat for that. :)
