
I started out composing this post by whining about how I couldn't identify these bugs, even with the aid of BugGuide. Then I remembered to search on the plant name too, and voilà! Jagged Ambush bug, Phymata erosa.
These individuals weren't too happy about being observed, and crawled away to the underside of the flower when I tried to get closer.

That is a very interesting looking insect. I am going to have to see if we have them here in the northwest. I don't think I've ever encountered them yet.
I don't know if I'm more fascinated by the bugs themselves or their excellent names. Very neat pic either way :-)

I've not seen Ambush Bugs here yet this summer. Should be soon if I remember corectly. Neat photo!
Heavens to Betsy, that sure is one scarey looking bug and on such a pretty flower too.
I had never noticed them before I took this picture. I was originally just going to take a picture of the daisies, and there they were... Go visit FC's place for better pix!
