Tuesday

Another early morning frog encounter!

This little Gray Treefrog (Hyla versicolor or possibly Hyla chrysoscelis), hiding in a crevice on the porch, was cold and not about to move.

After reading Swamp Things lately, I thought that's what he was, but wasn't sure.

So I pried him up to look underneath, to make sure he wasn't a Bird-voiced Treefrog (he was orange, so he wasn't). He didn't seem to mind much.

What a wonderful bird the frog are!
When he stand he sit almost;
When he hop he fly almost.
He ain't got no sense hardly;
He ain't got no tail hardly either.
When he sit, he sit on what he ain't got almost.

Of local note:
We'll be at Springfest at Homestead Hollow in Springville Friday - Sunday, so come buy some handmade soap.

Also, the Golden Temple Natural Grocery in Birmingham (Five Points South location) is now carrying our soaps. I love it - they're such a Birmingham tradition.

Those are such great little frogs. Bullfrogs are dramatic, leopard frogs are elegant, peepers are sweet, but gray treefrogs are just my favorites. When they start calling you know there's some rain coming (unless you just sprayed water in the trees!). Great pics.

Cute! It looks just like a piece of tree bark -- what a great job it must do at blending in.

Yes, we are of like minds! Love the poem.

I love that poem. The frog is "cute" in a froggy way. (Honestly, don't you think they are kind of creepy looking with those bug eyes and all?)

Actually frogs look just like some people I know. Not that they're not creepy!

You are so lucky to get such a great shot of the frog. We've been hearing an endless frog cacophony from our yard ever since the spring warmth hit, but have not seen a single one. I have no idea where they are hiding, but I'd sure like to get a shot like the one you have here. So cute.
Great poem too.

That little frog has some nice camo. I can't believe you found him.

I think they are normally way up in the trees, but this one got a little confused.

Hick, off with you to froggy re-education camp straightaway! He's cute, not creepy! :)

You should have seen him when I was turning him over... like a sleepy toddler, not wanting to get up.

This is actually the first one I've ever seen. (Unlike Swampy who I think is a frog conjurer.)

Never saw one of them before. He's cute, but looks, I dunno, slightly mummified, like King Tut's frog.

Well he does look that relaxed LOL.
